Dear Readers,My next novel is scheduled for publication in May! Since I was tired of calling it by no name (would you call your newborn "Baby"?), I've reverted to the working title, THE TREES IN THE FIELD.
It comes from Deuteronomy 20:19, in the Hebrew Bible. I translate it this way:
"When you besiege a city for many days, to do battle against it, you shall not destroy its trees by wielding a pickax against them; you may eat from them, but never cut them down. Are the trees in the field humankind, to come under siege from you?"
The theme is senseless ruin--but there's an irony there, also, as if it's okay to destroy human beings. This is one of the hard questions faced by my book's hero, Raybelle McKeehan, as she serves in the United States Senate and aims for the presidency.
I look forward to sharing the story with you.
