Paralympians and politicians
October 11, 2012
Dear Readers,This morning I learned the sad news that the Toronto Women's Bookstore is to close after 39 years. I am afraid this is just the latest loss to independent bookselling and, more broadly, to community. Like Langton's, the independent bookshop that closed in my neighborhood earlier this year, the Women's Bookstore was a place I felt at home--so much more than a place to buy books.
On a happier note, this year saw the Summer Olympiad in London. Being part of the Games not only cheered me up in the midst of the usual relentless bad news; it actually helped change the way I look at the news and the world. With that in mind, I've posted a couple of new pieces at http://jeknowles.blogspot.com. I wanted to contrast the generally negative way that news and campaigns tend to show the world, with what the athletes particularly of the Paralympics showed us.
I hope you will enjoy reading: http://jeknowles.blogspot.com
Thanks.
